Take Your Life Back: Recovering From PTSD & Trauma – Part 2

by | Dec 17, 2016 | Latest News | 0 comments

Last week we started the first of our five-part series – Recovering from PTSD and Trauma (or traumatic events) – offering skills to help you from isolating during the healing process. This week we look at another valuable skill towards your goal of healing from a traumatic experience; don’t isolate. This is not the time to close yourself off from your loved ones and the world. This will only slow your recovery.

Skill 2 (of 5): Don’t Isolate Yourself

  • RAvoid spending too much time alone
Maintain relationships with people who make you feel safe.
  • RGet Support
You don’t have to do this by yourself. Ask for support as you heal.
  • RJoin a support group

There are many groups for trauma survivors. Who else to better help you cope. Their stories and experiences may even inspire you.

  • RCommunicate
Don’t keep your feelings to yourself. Talk about your feelings with someone you trust.
  • RVolunteer
Challenge your sense of helplessness and hopelessness. Reclaim your power by comforting or helping others.

I offer that you try or at least consider one of the above this week. Take one small step forward to get out from underneath the overwhelming cloud of your feelings. Be open to the experience. Remember, taking or considering a new, healthy direction is a great start to quieting the ruminating, monkey mind and rewiring your brain.
